The Stanislaus County Library offers Hoopla Digital, a refreshingly quick — and free — way to get audiobooks, comics, eBooks, movies, music, and television shows. All hoopla content is available on demand. No holds necessary. No waiting. Users can access their selections via online streaming. Audiobooks may be temporarily downloaded to a mobile device for listening without an internet connection.


BingePass - Unlimited streaming for 7 days with a single borrow

hoopla BingePass offers unlimited access to specific collections of streaming content for 7 days with a single borrow. It’s a new way to explore great online content—and a lot of it! The collections available are magazines and The Great Courses Library Collection.

To access the BingePass collections, update your hoopla app. The BingePass option on an iOS device is under the "More" option in the bottom navigation to view hoopla BingePass. On an Android device scroll through the list of formats (Audiobooks, Comics, etc.) at the top of the page and tap BingePass.


Getting started

Using a personal computer (Windows or Mac):

  1. Go to hoopladigital.com.
  2. You will need your Stanislaus County Library card and PIN (last 4 digits of phone number on library card account).
  3. Click "Sign Up" (top right) and enter your library card number and PIN (required). Select Stanislaus County Library from the list of libraries. You may need to select from the drop down menu if the "nearby libraries" doesn't include Stanislaus County Library.
  4. Enter your email address and a password following the instructions.
  5. Hoopla digital is compatible with personal computers that use Internet Explorer 9 and above, Chrome, Firefox 8 and above, and Safari. First-time users will need to install the Widevine plug-in. You will be prompted to install this free program.

Using a tablet, smart phone or mobile device (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, Android phone or tablet):

  1. Go to Apple App or Google Play store to download the free Hoopla Digital app.
  2. You will need your Stanislaus County Library card and PIN.
  3. Click "Sign Up" (top right) and enter your library card number and PIN (required). Select Stanislaus County Library from the list of libraries. You may need to select from the drop down menu if the "nearby libraries" doesn't include Stanislaus County Library.
  4. Enter your email address and a password following the instructions.

Browse & Check Out

  • Browse or use the search box to find an audiobook, movie, music album, or television show of your choice. When you find a title, click "Borrow."
  • Each cardholder can check out up to 5 titles per month.
  • There are never any waiting lists. See a title and check it out.
  • After borrowing the item, go to "My Titles" to watch or listen to your selection.
  • Create a list of your favorite titles to check out later.

Checkout Period

  • All audiobooks check out for a period of 21 days.
  • All eBooks check out for a period of 21 days.
  • All Comics check out for a period of 21 days.
  • All music albums check out for a period of 7 days. The same album may only be borrowed twice in a 30 day period.
  • Movies and television shows check out for a period of 3 days, with the exception of Paramount Pictures’ films which have a 2-day borrowing period.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How many titles can I check out?
    You can check out up to 5 titles per month. Counter resets on the 1st of the month.
  • How do I know how many titles I have left this month to check out?
    On a computer: Click on your email address (top right). Under Account Notes, you’ll see items borrowed this month and number of remaining items.
    Android app: Settings >> Account Notes >> Monthly Usage.
    Apple app: Settings >> Lending History.
    Note: The Android app does not always update properly. To correct the problem, open the Application Manager and delete the data from the Hoopla app, not just clear the cache.
  • Why am I receiving a message that the daily limit has been met?
    There is a monthly budget for Hoopla Digital. That monthly budget is divided by the number of days in the current month. Once that daily limit is reached, all customers will receive that message. The daily limit is reset at midnight.
  • Do I have to return my titles? Are there overdue fines?
    Don’t worry about overdue fines. At the end of your checkout period, the item is returned automatically and you won’t be able to play it.
  • Can I check out items from Hoopla if I have fines on my library card account?
    In order to borrow items through Hoopla, fines on your library card account must be $10.00 or less.
  • Does Hoopla work on the Kindle Fire, XBox 360, PS3, Roku or Chromecast?
    Hoopla is now supporting Chromecast for video. You can access it with any iOS or Android smart phone, tablet, or computer. All you need is a connected device and an active internet connection. At this time, Hoopla does not support the Kindle Fire, XBox 360, PS3, Roku. However, Hoopla is working on increasing compatibility with more devices - check back for updates.
  • Can a family share one email address with multiple library cards and still have separate Hoopla accounts?
    No, each Hoopla user must have a unique email address. Only one library card is allowed per email address.

  • iOS and Android devices to the 1st and 2nd generation Chromecasts, including Chromecast Ultra and Smart TVs with Chromecast built-in.
  • We are currently experiencing issues with iOS 12 devices and chromecast.

    We support all devices running Fire OS 5.0.0 and newer, including:
