Magaine & Newspaper Database User's Guide

Access
From home (via the
internet): Go to the library’s homepage, http://www.stanislauslibrary.org. From the options on the left choose “Find/Renew Materials,” then
“Magazine Articles” from the box that appears. Select the Magazines and Newspapers option. Be prepared to enter your library card number and the last 4 digits of
your phone number.
From the library terminals:
Choose “Online Databases.” Select
EBSCO Host. Select the Magazines and
Newspapers option.
Choose
Databases
Select the databases to be
searched by checking the small boxes next to the database titles/descriptions. Clicking on the “More Information” link below a database title will
grant the user access to database-specific search tips and other special
features. The “Title List” link
will show a list of magazines or newspapers indexed in the database.
- MasterFILE
Premier: article database, 1800+
magazines/journals w/full-text. This
should be automatically checked.
- Newspaper
Source: full-text for selected
U.S./International newspapers.
- Health
Source—Consumer Edition:
abstracts, indexing, and selected full-text for many general health,
nutrition and professional health care publications.
Search
- If
you are at home, be sure to click on the “Advanced Search” tab before
proceeding.
- Enter
your search terms in the “find” boxes; if you want to specify author,
article title, etc. you can select from the options in the box marked
“default fields.”
- Make
sure that the box marked “Full Text Articles” is checked.
- If
you only want scholarly or professional journals, check the box marked
“Peer Reviewed Journals”
- Other
options are available for narrowing your search; ask a reference librarian
if you need assistance with these.
Results
- Click
on the title of the article to view the abstract and the article in HTML
(text only) format.
- If
the full text is available in PDF (which includes pictures, graphs, etc.),
click on the words that say “PDF Full Text” on the abstract page; these
words are located above the title of the article.
- To
email articles: click the Email icon; enter your email address, a subject
line, and make sure the appropriate boxes are selected. Click “send.”
- To
print articles: click the Print icon.
